Tuesday March 27th:
More subtraction this week, with the focus on vertical notation and algorithms. One website that's been great to explore solving subtraction problems is here.

Wednesday March 21st:
Strategies for subtraction this week include:
  • Partitioning 
  • Compensating 
  • Bridging 
  • Reordering 
  • Counting Back 
  • Inverse, e.g. addition is the inverse of subtraction 

The posters we are using that correspond with these strategies can be found here
Here's a video example of Partitioning which we covered in class, today.


Wednesday March 7th:

Some of the types of problems the kids practised solving were: 
18 + 35 =

56 + 27 = 

Challenging students can be done in many ways but practising these same skills with much larger numbers or negative numbers is a possibility.
